Job Summary The Senior Software Engineer will apply engineering techniques, principles and precedents to design, develop, modify and test avionics or related requirements software. Also, evaluate avionics or related data processing systems as well as support and mentor team engineers. This position is likely to primarily support Flight Management System development projects.
Primary Responsibilities: * Develops software solutions by studying information needs; studying systems flow, data usage, and work processes; investigating problem areas; conferring with users; following the software development lifecycle. * Supports and develops software engineers by providing advice, coaching and training opportunities. * Protects operations by keeping information confidential. * Provides information by collecting, analyzing and summarizing development and service issues. * Enlist commitment of people in other groups to establish a coordinated, focused, effort toward results. * May be the technical leader and/or responsible for project/process planning; makes substantial contributions to determining feasibility of goals/objectives. * Frequent inter-organizational and/or outside customer contact. * Represents the organization in providing solutions to difficult technical problems associated with specific projects. * Understand and live by Esterline ethics and business conduct polices. Qualification: * Must be detail-oriented, able to analyze Software Design, Software Documentation, Software Requirements, Problem Reports and other information. * Flight Management System experience related to but not limited to the following areas:* Understand flight planning including construction and flying * Familiarity with Navigation aids * LNAV/VNAV/Performance * ARINC 424 Leg types
* Understand Software Development Processes. * Working knowledge of other related disciplines and the ability to develop non-standard approaches to work. * Viewed as highly-experienced engineer able to successfully carry out complex projects and/or participates in project leadership or program planning. * Knows the business, understands the technology and is able to offer solutions. * Openly shares responsibility for the effect of technical decisions/judgments on program schedules or goals critical to the organization with other high level engineers and managers. * Remains current on field of expertise and technological direction. * Familiarity with DO-178B/C lifecycle, AS9100, or comparable industry guideline/standard. * Experience with Next Gen technologies a bonus (ADS; FANS, etc.). * Flight Test or Pilot training a bonus Education/Previous Experience Requirements * Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering, Computer Science or similar technical discipline. * Minimum of 5 years of relevant FMS development experience.
