SAMPE (Society for the Advancement of Material and Processing Engineers) seeks an Assistant Technical Director. This is a part-time, contract position renewable based on performance. The Assistant Technical Director will be responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of SAMPE’s new online technical resource web pages, forum discussions and YouTube videos related to materials and process engineering. The assistant technical director provides information and technical assistance to the SAMPE staff, SAMPE Technical Director, leadership and SAMPE customers. This person also assists conference staff in creating high-quality technical programs for the current SAMPE-produced conferences in North America.
Primary Responsibilities • Works with SAMPE staff and especially Dr. Scott Beckwith, SAMPE’s Technical Director, and subject matter experts to develop, implement and maintain learning solutions that provide member value in all career stages. • Execute all phase of online education resources disseminating technical information via the SAMPE website as a resource for SAMPE members and customers. • Annually develop and maintain technical resource web pages with the assistance of volunteer subject matter experts (SMEs). • Review submitted educational YouTube videos for technical accuracy and compliance with guidelines offering recommendations for improvements. Develop content for technical educational video generated by SAMPE. • Adjudicate discussion on the SAMPE MEGA forum for technical relevance and accuracy. • Work with SAMPE staff and committee members to identify SME’s to lead educational programs on relevant topics. By the end of three years, create programming for one-two new vertical conference/workshop programs that can become annual events. • As SAMPE’s online technical resources evolve, the role of the Assistant Technical Director may change accordingly.
Other Duties: • Maintain strong, strategic professional relationships with SAMPE’s stakeholders, partners (such as ACMA and CompositesWorld), member volunteer groups, industry educational organizations, academic organizations and other associations to keep current on the latest industry trends and develop joint programming. • Assist the Technical Director and the SAMPE staff on-site at conferences and live educational programs. • This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required for this job. Qualifications • Master’s degree in engineering, materials or physical sciences. • Minimum ten years of professional experience in materials and process engineering • Exhibit strong project and process management skills. Ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously with an eye for details under sometimes aggressive timelines. • A strong understanding of materials and process industry best practices along with an appreciation for outbound information exchange. • A passion for emerging technologies and an ability to apply them to future technical conference or paper presentations. • Exceptional communication and presentation skills with an ability to translate complex technical concepts. • Possess strong business acumen and organizational skills. • Must be diplomatic and able to interact well with committee members, SAMPE staff, Executive Cabinet members and SAMPE members and customers. • Proven ability to maintain and cultivate internal and external professional relationships always showing respect for a diversity of staff, volunteers, and members. • Communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing. • A passion for technical education and creating innovative learning experiences is a plus. • Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Working knowledge of business and technology applications that support member engagement. Ability to learn new software applications with relative ease.
Travel Requirements This position requires up to 30 days per year of reimbursed travel including trips to conferences and other SAMPE-related meetings.
