A Day in the Life
You will communicate with various suppliers and manufacturing sites for Medtronic to support troubleshooting issues, supplier development programs and tooling replacement programs to ensure quality components will continually be received at the manufacturing sites. You will work under the direction of a Principal Engineer or Manager of Global Engineering in a fast paced collaborative environment supportive of project and program initiatives and compliant with company best practices.
You will: • Provide Project Management and engineering technical support to initiatives focused on plastics component tool repair and replacement • Provide in all product manufacturing aspects: Cost reduction, quality improvement, Service/Repair, Process Improvement and Documentation. • Develops sound understanding of product designs and focuses on ways to improve manufacturing processes as well as identify and implement cost reductions. • Key participant in DFMEA, PFMEA, and CTQ processes assuring specifications are well defined and documented. • Provides guidance to other Engineering functions on concepts and specification requirements to best utilize injection molding equipment and processes & techniques. • Gathers and analyzes manufacturing metrics and works closely with Quality organization to define appropriate process changes. • Uses statistical techniques to compile and analyze data and realize appropriate improvement initiatives • Works closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Regulatory Affairs and Marketing to coordinate product changes • Participates on cross-functional operations teams. • 20-40% travel to manufacturing sites and supplier visits required. (International and domestic).
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Materials Science Engineering, or equivalent plus 3 years related experience.
• Strong knowledge of Plastic Injection Molding tools, processes and machinery • Strong project management and presentation skills • Working Knowledge of Six Sigma & statistical analyses, including process capability, process control, DOE, etc. • Working knowledge of Medical Devices regulation environment or other industry regulations. • Dynamic, Dependable, positive attitude • Working knowledge of GD&T • Working knowledge of DFMEA, PFMEA, and Risk Tools • Working knowledge of DFA/ DFM principles • Strong computer skills
