A Business Development Specialist (BDS) is responsible for driving growth through strategic focus on the OEM/Design/Engineering community. This employee will also manage the Distribution portion of the business, focusing on our key, core Distributors and living the SPI brand promise of “delivering more than our customers can imagine.”
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Drive strategic growth in assigned region and core markets:
Support and develop strategic OEM’s, Designers, and Distributors
Specify KYDEX® and Allen® brand thermoplastics in existing and prospective accounts
Identify and develop strategic OEM and Design accounts
Minimum 6-8 in person sales calls per week
Focus on selling products that the company’s facilities can produce efficiently
Develop a target list of potential customers and applications that are strategic new business opportunities within our focus markets
Support project pipeline in strategic markets to include: Medical, Aviation, Mass Transit, Building Products and Automation
Investigate the requirements to grow current markets to include: Building Products, Automation, Transportation Medical
Meet required KPIs to include:
Budget Sales $, Lbs., ASP for KYDEX® and ALLEN™ Businesses
Budget Expenses for the Region
Customer calls per week
Call reports per week
Account development strategy for top five strategic accounts/targets
Track budget results with existing tools
Provide accurate quarterly, half-year, and yearly budgets and monthly forecasts
Stay current on market conditions, competitive activities, and trends/dynamics in current and potential markets
Participate in key industry trade associations, journals, and shows
Gather market intelligence and VOC to make informed recommendations to North American Business Manager and Regional Business Manager
Conduct knowledge seminars with design firms, distributors, direct accounts, and OEMs
Work collaboratively and support all internal customers including: Plant, R&D, Quality, Application Service, designLab™, and Customer Service
Align sales goals with company goals and provide on-time, accurate reports:
Implement company business strategy
Follow company sales guidelines, policies, and procedures
Analyze sales trends and operating efficiencies
Develop a strategy to demonstrate our product value to the core customer base
Support company safety and environmental policies and Kaizen methodology and spirit
Identify opportunities for campaigns, services, and distribution channels that will lead to an increase in sales
70% domestic travel within region

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree preferred
Three years of related work experience required
Demonstrated excellence in the field of business development
Must have strong reasoning and analytical skills to develop business plans. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. The employee must have the ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to analyze and use various documents (contracts, purchase orders, etc.).
