The Vice President of International Business Development (IBD) will be responsible for developing strategies for growing the Communication Systems Segment of L3 Technologies (the Company) international business portfolio. The VP of IBD will be responsible for developing and maintaining the strategic roadmap and the pursuit of international opportunities, including oversight of the capture team efforts. This key business leader will collaborate with key Company segment, sector, division and program leaders in developing international pursuit strategies. The VP of IBD will be responsible for identifying and supervising the resources including international consultants and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) required to support the development and implementation of the strategy and supporting solutions. This position is based at a major Communication Systems Facility or the Segment’s Salt Lake City, Utah headquarters and will report to the Segment VP of Business Development.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Designs, develops and executes an effective plan and strategy for increasing the segment’s international orders/bookings and program captures.
Works across Segments to ensure collaboration and integration of L3’s entire portfolio in support of major pursuits and captures.
Serves as a key member of the Corporate Business Development Council.
Organizes and guides cross-functional teams in developing the strategies and business cases to support positioning and capturing new opportunities with the international community of government, military services, and global prime contractors.
Prepares and packages concise clear and compelling briefings that include the positioning strategy/plan, customer map, business case rationale, risks, and customer value propositioning.
Develops and manages the international budget to support the segment’s planning and forecasting.
Organizes and prepares customer engagement plan for the Company’s leadership to include international trade shows – includes preparing white papers and talking points for leadership.
Identifies team resources in coordination with the sector and division leaders.
Works closely with Business Development Leaders, Program Vice Presidents, other Strategy and functional departments (Contracts, Pricing, Finance, HR, etc.,) to assure an integrated approach.
Ensures compliance with company policies and procedures and other practices set forth by upper management.
Supports proposal color review teams to ensure strategies are effectively communicated.
Coordinates and leads customer demos and oral presentations to ensure messages are accurately and clearly communicated.
Oversees preparation of competitor analysis to support capture strategy.
Works with L3 international offices and approved International consultants to define customer problem space and messaging – to include effective customer engagement plan and mapping
Coordinates development and implementation of marketing campaigns to support international pursuits.
B.S. Degree in business or technical field; or equivalent required, MBA a plus. Candidates must have 8 to 10 years of directly related direct commercial and foreign military sales experience in the defense industry. Possesses a thorough understanding of strategic planning and new business capture processes, methods and techniques to include USA ITAR knowledge and experience. In addition, the qualified candidates must have the following:
The ability to perform customer and competitive analysis in support of business and marketing strategies. Engaging personality able to coordinate and work with cross-functional teams involved in the development of business strategies and customer proposals Strong communication skills to advise team members and senior management on status and actions required relative to existing and potential new business opportunities Good analytical skills relating to business development process Thorough understanding of government contracting practices preferred Microsoft Office Suite skills, including high proficiency in PowerPoint Ability to make formal presentations to senior decision makers Experience developing proposal strategies Ability to travel 50% or more internationally to include destinations in the USA. Program Management experience in simulation and training is highly desirable International experience required. Prior US military service experience desirable.
This position may be filled at a higher grade based on the successful applicant's skills, education and experience.
