Virgin Orbit (VO) is seeking an experienced Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Engineer professional who will play a key role in the implementation, operation and maintenance of environmental and safety programs. This role is for a hands-on person with great attention to detail and excellent people skills. This is a full-time position at our rocket factory in beautiful Long Beach, California.
•Develop, implement, and maintain site specific safety policies by OSHA and EPA standards *Confined space entry program *Fall Protection program *Lock-out/ tag-out program *Electrical safety program
•Responsible for hazardous and non-hazardous waste management, including DOT and RCRA *Air permitting *Pollution prevention *Spill prevention/response
•Develop and implement the site Industrial Hygiene program *Site industrial hygiene program *Respiratory protection program
*Understands and/or worked on cryogenic fluid systems
•Develop, implement and maintain site specific environmental policies
•Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations relating to the aerospace industry
•Conducts and/or coordinates employee safety and environmental training programs and emergency response training drills
•Investigate industrial accidents and injuries to determine causes and preventive measures
•Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment in order to identify and correct potential hazards
•Performs environmental compliance and due diligence audits
•Coordinate waste characterization and profiling
•Prepare and update Spill Prevention Control Countermeasures (SPCC) plans as required
•Monitor, track and ensure company EPA hazardous waste records are completed accordingly
•Collaborates with management to complete job hazard analysis and PPE assessments
•Monitor employee exposure to job and chemical hazards
•Recommend process and product safety features that will reduce employees’ exposure to chemical, physical, and biological work hazards
•Report or review findings from accident investigations, facilities inspections and environmental testing

•Bachelor's degree with 3 or more years of experience in operational oversight of environmental, health and safety disciplines
•General knowledge in environmental hazards, environmental compliance and industrial hygiene.
•General knowledge in interpreting, applying, and documenting federal, state, and local safety, transportation and environmental regulations
•Knowledge of OSHA, EPA and specific State environmental laws and regulations
•Ability and willingness to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment
•Driven, highly motivated, and committed to improvement

•Generally high level of all-around awesomeness
•Must be able to work all shifts and available for overtime as well as weekends when needed
•Must be able to stand for extended periods – 8 hours minimum
•Must be able to stoop, bend, crawl, and being able to maneuver in tight spaces
•Physically able to handle items weighing up to 25lbs (unassisted)

•Strong knowledge and experience in interpreting, applying and documenting federal, state and local safety, transportation, and environmental regulations
•Generalist knowledge in Environmental Hazards and Safety disciplines with experience in safety, ergonomics, environmental compliance and industrial hygiene
•Experience with emergency response crews in incidents involving hazardous and non-hazardous material releases to air, soil, and water
•Knowledge of specific Federal and State environmental laws and regulations.
•Ability to multi-task, to manage shifting priorities and to follow through on projects with minimal supervision
•Strong organizational and communication skills are essential
•Bachelor of Science in engineering with an emphasis in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Engineering, preferred
•Passion for space exploration and a firm belief in the utility of affordable access to space
•Ability to thrive as a ‘one person team’
