The Lead Automation Technician will be based in Buffalo Grove, IL and will be responsible for leading the maintenance and technical support of automated and semi-automated manufacturing solutions for a high-volume consumer products application
Here is a glimpse of what you’ll do…
Collaborate with Production Supervisor to strategically assign technical resources to support production activities and achieve production metrics.
Support Automation Engineering team to develop Preventive Maintenance procedures and schedules.
Support Automation Engineering team to develop creative solutions to machine or product problems.
Maintain continuous system operation by adjusting, repairing, replacing, or modifying automation/robotic system components within specifications defined by Automation Engineering team.
Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems and components and return to serviceability.
Perform scheduled preventive maintenance actions on all subsystems and related components.
Perform preventative maintenance of robotic and process support equipment.
Understanding of PLCs.
Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical diagrams including complex automated system drawings.
Proper use of power tools and measuring equipment.
Strong awareness of safety.
Analyzes engineering test results, and implements changes to resolve problems.
Assist automation team in the qualification process of automated systems.
Records procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and recommendations for changes in product or method.
Maintains software, documentation and equipment to the latest revision or operational specifications.
Assists engineers in developing and designing hardware and software required for all automation solutions per specifications.
Trains other technicians and operators on products, processes and equipment.
Here is some of what you’ll need (required)…
High school degree required, Associates Degree or equivalent Vocational Training preferred.
Minimum 10 years hands-on experience leading the maintenance and continuous improvement of high-speed automated assembly, filling, and packaging equipment.
Prior supervisory, leadership, and or management experience leading teams.
Self-motivated individual works well both independently and in a cross-functional team setting.
Ability to effectively communicate and interface with customers, management, peers, and direct reports.
Hands-on individual with excellent mechanical and electrical aptitude, problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
Knowledge of automated equipment systems and tools - robotics, vision, material handling, conveyors, sensors, pneumatic components, PLC, HMI, Pick-Place-Pack, Inspection/Test (Structural and Non-Contact e.g. Laser), Application of lasers (e.g. Etching/Marking), filling and dispense processes, plastics welding and joining.

Experience with high-volume automation applications in the medical device, food, beverage, or electronics industries.
Ability to read and interpret engineering prints (mechanical, electrical, facilities).
Ability to fabricate mechanical components.
Ability to wire control panels.
