Assistant Professor – Production Systems The Integrated Science and Technology Program (ISAT) at James Madison University seeks applicants for an assistant professor position with a focus on sustainable production and advanced manufacturing. The position is full-time tenure track or full-time revolving term contract; appointment at the associate rank may be considered for exceptional applicants. Appointments begin in August 2019 for the 2019-20 academic year.
ISAT is an ABET-accredited, multidisciplinary, applied science program. Graduates have strong problem-solving skills acquired through a curriculum that integrates the natural and social sciences, technology and business. Interdisciplinary areas of focus within the ISAT program include Applied Biotechnology; Energy; Environment; Computing; the Social Context of Science and Technology; Production Systems; and Telecommunications, Networking, and Security.
Successful candidates will be able to teach in the ISAT Production Systems curriculum, which also supports JMU’s Global Supply Chain Management minor in partnership with the College of Business. ISAT Production Systems courses include those related to continuous improvement, lean and six sigma, manufacturing automation, materials and manufacturing processes, production planning and control, and sustainable product and system design.
Candidates should have expertise in one or more of the following areas: sustainable production, advanced manufacturing, operations management, quality management, mechatronics, biomanufacturing, learning factories, or industrial ecology. Relevant industrial experience is desirable.
Candidates should have strong interest in teaching at the undergraduate level, an ability to participate across the ISAT curriculum, and a demonstrated commitment to scholarship. Successful candidates will facilitate relationships with the regional business community. Ideal candidates will understand and embrace the ISAT culture, which fosters holistic, interdisciplinary approaches to complex problem solving. A Ph.D. in a relevant academic field is preferred and is required for a tenure track appointment; a master's degree and significant relevant professional experience will also be considered.
