ABOUT THE POSITION: The City of Monterey's Public Works Department currently has three (3) engineering vacancies: Associate Civil Engineer (1) and Senior Engineer (2). Pending a departmental re-organization presented to the City Council for fiscal year 2019/2020, there may be additional engineering vacancies. Therefore, the City would encourage applicants interested in any engineering position with the City of Monterey to apply. The City has four (4) different engineering levels at which the positions may be filled: Senior Engineer, Associate Civil Engineer, Engineering Assistant and Engineering Technician.
Engineering Technician - Requires HS degree supplemented by courses in drafting and trigonometry and four (4) years engineering drafting experience.
Engineering Assistant - Requires Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and two (2) years of experience in engineering.

Associate Civil Engineer - Requires Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and three (3) years of experience in civil engineering.
Senior Engineer - Requires Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and seven (7) years of experience in civil engineering.

Candidates who successfully complete all components of this recruitment process will be placed on an eligibility list. The eligibility list is active for 12-months and may be used to fill additional vacancies including lower-level positions determined to have similar duties and requirements.
