The Quality Engineer will engage daily with the appropriate Operations and Engineering personnel, helping to facilitate daily problem solving and irreversible corrective action. The Quality Engineer will utilize statistical techniques and preventive action methods to evaluate, initiate, identify, and control sources of variation detrimental to quality, cost, and schedule targets. The scope of this role will include but is not limited to: quality and cost data analysis, root cause analysis, corrective and preventive action investigations, process validations, and supplier quality integration tasks.
The position is responsible for all quality procedures and processes, corrective actions required, and it supports all supplier quality aspects regarding new products and new supplier approvals. The position is responsible for gathering and processing quality data and providing monthly reports both internally and externally for the company as required. The position will utilize this data to drive continuous improvement relative to Safety, Quality and Productivity.
Fully support and comply with the SFS objectives and projects.
Responsible for documenting and communicating quality standards to manufacturing and quality auditors. This shall be achieved by creating visual boundary samples or standard parts for reference whenever possible.
Provide valuable input to the DFMEA & PFMEA processes, ultimately creating control plans for all manufacturing processes with a strong focus on embedded process controls / error-proofing.
Where ever possible drive the Cheraw operation toward in process controls targeting prevention not detection.
Provide input into the development of Operations Standard Work ensuring focus on Critical to Quality processing steps.
Support the Material Review Board (MRB) process as required ensuring an expedient root cause analysis and disposition process is maintained.
Oversee gage certification and calibration including working with outside gage vendors as needed
Maintain quality documentation, logs, and system for assigned products as required.
Perform and develop PPAPs as required.
Responsible for performing or leading measurement systems analysis (MSAs) as required.
As required define, establish, implement, train and monitor quality plans for incoming inspection, in process inspections, and finished goods inspections. Includes test equipment, gages, inspection procedures, frequency of inspections, forms, records, boundary samples, masters
Working with your peers in Engineering and Operations, manage all day to day quality issues with assigned products or processes on the factory floor >90% focus.
Assist Engineering in defining and maintaining all specs (Raw and Finished Goods).
Responsible for monitoring and developing total supplier quality management system
Responsible for collection, analysis, and communication of quality data.
Drive root cause and corrective action on identified issues (customer complaints, supplier quality, manufacturing quality, and management systems).
ISO document control responsibilities including creating and maintaining company quality documentation
Assist Quality manager in establishing, implementing and maintaining the quality management system.
Drive Continuous Improvement activities to enhance the quality system, such as 5S, Kaizen/Lean methods, First Pass Yield, DPMO, Scrap % metrics, Capability (CPK & PPK).
Establish and Teach operations personnel to perform quality checks on shop floor as needed
Adhere to all ISO requirements including conducting internal and external audits as required
Perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned
B.S. degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or Quality Engineering or Statistics preferred.
ASQ or CQE equivalent training and certification preferred
Work Experience Required:
5+ years of quality/manufacturing experience in a high volume high complexity factory setting
Demonstrated ability functioning as a key member of a cross functional team in Problem Solving and Continuous Improvement activities.
Experience working in a Lean Thinking organization under formal transformation.
Skills & Knowledge Required:
Must possess a strong technical background
Must possess knowledge of gaging and inspection techniques including GD&T
