We are seeking a full-time staff member interested in transportation and economic analysis to join our downtown Boston headquarters. All candidates should demonstrate passion for how infrastructure affects people and the economy and have an interest in assessing transportation projects, programs, and policies. Candidates who are self-motivated to develop new relationships with partners and clients are of particular interest.
Responsibilities include working on strategic planning, long range planning and visioning, and policy research for clients such as state DOTs, MPOs, transit agencies, and airport and bridge authorities. Topics may include:
Scenario planning, especially for long range multimodal, freight, rail, and resiliency plans
Business processes for multimodal project prioritization, programming, and finance and revenue
Environmental justice, equity, and research on specific subpopulations and users
Performance management, metrics, and reporting, including accessibility measures
Interactions between infrastructure, land use, and economic development
Emerging technologies, connected and autonomous vehicles and new transportation business models
Electric vehicle impacts and infrastructure needs and broader energy analysis
This position will contribute to large-scale research efforts and be responsible for presentation of findings to clients and professional organizations.
Minimum qualifications include:
A degree related to transportation, urban/regional planning, public policy, public administration, business analytics, trade and logistics, data science, regional science, or economics
Two years of transportation planning experience, which can be met with graduate school project experience
Excellent English-language written and verbal communication skills, including demonstrated ability to communicate concisely and effectively in a business environment
Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with clients and others in a research team
Demonstrated experience related to transportation, energy, or planning
Candidates should have demonstrated experience with qualitative research methods and the ability to blend qualitative and quantitative analyses. Qualitative research experience may include, but is not limited to:
Preparing interview and discussion guides and conducting interviews (in person or by phone)
Developing and administering surveys
Conducting literature reviews
Technical skills in any of the following areas are a plus:
Spatial analysis and cartography in QGIS, ArcGIS, or web tools
Programming, survey analytics, and data visualization in R or Python
