The City of Grand Island, Nebraska, is looking for a qualified candidate to fill their Power Plant Superintendent- PGS position. This position supervises, plans and coordinates the activities and operations of the Platte Generating Station and Burdick Generating Station within the Utilities Department; coordinate power generation activities with other divisions and departments; and provide highly responsible staff assistance to the Assistant Utilities Director-Production.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Coordinate the organization, staffing and operational activities for the Platte Generating Station, Burdick Generating Station, and city water pumping facilities, including lab, materials handling, maintenance, power production and water production activities.
Participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies and priorities for the Platte Generating Station and Burdick Generating Station; identify resource needs; recommend and implement policies and procedures.
Direct, coordinate and review the work plan for the Platte Generating Station, Burdick Generating Station, and water pumping facilities; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems; assign work activities and projects; monitor work flow; implement policies and procedures; review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures.
Assist in the preparation and implementation of the budget and payroll; participate in the forecast of additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies; administer the approved budget.
Oversee the overall operation of the power plants and water pumping operations; ensure that maintenance, repairs, testing and calibration of power plant facilities and equipment are performed according to guidelines and in a timely manner.
Assist in the preparation of maintenance and testing schedules of power plant facilities and equipment; prepare schedules for maintenance.
Prepare and submit various reports concerning plant operations; direct procurement of supplies and equipment.
Oversee and participate in the preparation of a variety of reports related to compliance with governmental regulations and the monitoring of daily activities; review activity logs for plant performance information.
Work with engineering staff and contractors regarding specialized repairs and maintenance for the power plants and city pumping facilities.
Cooperate with State and Federal agencies to ensure compliance with applicable corresponding codes, ordinances, laws and regulations.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Five years of increasingly responsible experience in power generation, including three years of supervisory responsibility.
Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in engineering or a closely related field.
License or Certification:
Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, an appropriate, valid driver's license.
Possession of a Nebraska Grade 3 Water operator's license within one year of hire date.
Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.; on-call
