Job Responsibilities

40%  1. Assists higher level engineers to gain knowledge and training in conducting routine plant site inspections/investigations and performing engineering analysis of industrial facilities for the Bureau of Air, Field Operations Section, Southern Region;

• Provides routine engineering analyses of certain industrial processes; i.e. metallurgical, chemical, power generation, their design, operations and maintenance of air pollution control equipment
• Reviews source operating records and reports
• Prepares engineering evaluations, complaint investigations and emergency response reports, as a result of analyses. 
• Utilizes chemically and heat resistant clothing and respiratory protection and heavy sampling equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, per 29 CFR 1910.12, assist in responding to plant site emergency situations
• Utilizes a personal computer to update tracking and scheduling databases
• Travels in performance of duties

25%  2. Assists higher level engineers with performing investigations of emergency situations and routine citizen complaints of air pollution;

• Assists in the preparation of engineering analyses, complaint investigations and emergency response reports, as a result of investigations

20%  3. Assists in investigating/evaluating/supporting routine enforcement situations;

• Prepares and submits engineering data to be utilized in preparation of enforcement actions
• Participates in required compliance conferences between the Agency and the source when violations of the air pollution regulations are alleged

10%  4. Participates and observes higher level staff in meetings such as with elected officials, plant site representatives or any concerned citizens;

• Explains and interprets Bureau policies and regulations (i.e., permitting procedures, compliance schedules, air pollution control regulations)

05%  5. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
