We are seeking a creative and detail-oriented individual who’s excited to be part of a mission-driven early stage company. As Mass Spectrometry Scientist, you will apply your specific experience to work within the Research & Development group at Living Carbon. The successful candidate will be both a strong lab-based individual contributor and a team player who works well with other scientists. The candidate will contribute to key discovery studies which will have a direct impact on the success of our biotech programs to advance company goals.
Develop Mass Spectrometry (MS)-based lipidomics techniques such as LC-MS/MS and shotgun lipidomics
Serve as the lead on multiple projects using metabolomics and lipidomics to solve exciting problems related to metabolism and physiology in engineered plant species
Manage and improve metabolomics and lipidomics platforms and associated data analysis pipelines
Perform analytical testing to support project ideas, event evaluation studies, and product characterization.
Ensure rigorous analysis and high-quality data acquisition to drive research projects to completion
Develop recommendations about instrumentation purchase, data infrastructure, project goals etc.
Troubleshoot equipment and testing to identify root causes of issues. Evaluate new technologies and innovations to improve operational efficiency or expand mass spec capabilities. Perform general laboratory duties associated with equipment maintenance and good housekeeping.
Prepare and present concise, sound scientific presentations of study results to internal and external teams for decision making
Author technical documents such as SOPs for Laboratory and assay procedures, method development reports, method qualification protocols/reports, and regulatory filing documents per project needs
Requirements and qualifications:
PhD in Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry or related field with experience in metabolomics and/or lipidomics
Expertise with high-resolution mass spec machines and techniques
Experience in mass spec analytical method development and data interpretation
Ability to develop custom metabolite extraction methods, chromatography conditions, etc. for relative and absolute quantification of metabolites
Expertise in preparing plant cell and tissue samples for metabolomics experiments to ensure reproducibility and accurate representation of cellular metabolism
Experience working in large teams and communicating with people who have little or no knowledge of mass spectrometry and metabolomics
Experience or working knowledge of solid-state NMR analysis
