The Substation Electrician provides quality craftsmanship on projects as part of a team whose goal is to successfully execute the initiatives of Keys Energy Services (KEYS) of completing projects safely, on-time and within specifications for quality delivery. The Substation Electrician is responsible for substation maintenance and testing, SCADA/RTU, reclosers, padmount switches, regulators, protective relays, communication equipment, house wiring of control buildings KEYS facilities, and electrical trouble shooting.
Perform all phases of substation maintenance including but not limited to reading and understanding blue prints and schematic drawings and one lines, installing busses, switches, breakers, transformers, voltage regulators, capacitors, circuit switchers, AC and DC systems, conduit and cable raceways, grounding systems, pulling and terminating low- and high-voltage cable, control installation, metering and relay panels.
Take monthly substation readings - perform monthly substation maintenance.
Maintain, service, upgrade, and install substation equipment in an energized environment (120-volt to 138,000-volt) following guidelines and safety practices of APPA and OSHA.
Work within electromagnetic fields.
Install and maintain control house wiring in accordance to applicable code
Perform switching and tagging on equipment of all voltages as directed by the power system coordinator or supervisor in accordance with KEYS’ established practices and NESC.
Read, review, and identify any issues that need to be addressed prior to following switching orders in accordance with KEYS switching procedures.
Inspect, maintain, repair and test UPS systems, station battery banks, remote terminal units (RTU’s), Protective Relays, Control Systems, and associated equipment.
Analyze and resolve problems, and/or assist with installation, trouble-shooting, and maintenance of electrical instruments, capacitor banks and their controls, reclosers, relays, and all protective devices and assist workers in solving problems.
Maintain records of all electrical equipment serviced, repaired, tested, painted, or upgraded, initiate and maintain documentation, log in completed work tickets in work ticket tracking system records, initiate requisitions for tools & equipment and reports as requested.
Troubleshoot, program, and maintain microprocessors, digital and electronic equipment.
Develop and correct “as built” drawings necessary for equipment and circuit modifications. Support and update substation drawings and maintain substation drawings to accurately reflect the conditions of the station.
Perform traffic light maintenance, changing time on intersections and reprogramming controllers.
