Traffic Engineering Coordinator: $85,798 - $112,904 annually Full-time, non-exempt position plus full benefits package.

About This Opportunity The City of Hillsboro Transportation Systems Division is a dynamic team of engineers and planners. We are active in many unique and transformative projects, developing and implementing a transportation vision for the community while collaborating with regional partners. The Traffic Engineer Project Manager will have opportunity to influence community development, identify infrastructure solutions, direct consultant teams, engage in public-private partnerships, and collaborate across internal and external agency departments.
While the position is generally designed with a traffic engineer’s skillset in mind, transportation planners or roadway engineers with experience in traffic operations analysis may be considered with relevant experience.
Essential Job Duties Include:
Identify and analyze alternative transportation solutions
Perform traffic operations analysis including intersection capacity analysis, queuing, and vehicle delay
Evaluate infrastructure designs for multi-modal safety
Direct transportation studies including conceptual design of transportation facilities needed to support community growth
Implement and update the City’s Transportation System Plan
Respond to changing policies and regulatory requirements
Communicate City transportation infrastructure and planning needs with agency partners, elected officials, regional and state policy makers
Manage transportation project implementation including consultant contract management, preparation of scope, schedule, budget, contracts
Coordinate with land use planners, developers, and consultants in evaluating development applications
Evaluate multi-modal transportation and traffic infrastructure needs and design solutions
Review Traffic Impact Analyses and prepare findings with conditions of approval
Negotiate agreements between public agencies and private developers
Represent City at public and neighborhood meetings regarding transportation issues
Successful Candidates Ideal candidates will possess strong technical, verbal, written, and communication skills with the ability to speak in public hearings and public open houses comfortably on topics within the candidate’s areas of expertise. The ideal candidate would embrace all modes of mobility (pedestrian, bicycling, transit, freight, and vehicular) and be a visionary creative problem solver. Experience with traffic operations and highway capacity evaluation software (e.g., Synchro) is required.

Acceptable Experience and Training
Traffic Engineer (Project Manager) Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field; and minimum of 5 years of traffic operations analysis and/or traffic engineering design and project management experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Traffic Engineering Coordinator Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and minimum of 2 years of traffic engineering experience including lead worker responsibilities; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Licensing/Certifications
Traffic Engineer (Project Manager) - State Registration as a Professional Engineer in Oregon. If licensed in another state, the ability to obtain an Oregon license within 6 months.
Traffic Engineering Coordinator - Oregon Fundamentals of Engineering Certification and ability to obtain Professional Engineer License in the future.
Possession of a valid State Driver’s License and safe driving record.
