The San Diego State University (SDSU) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the broad area of Artificial Intelligence (AI) with an expected start in Fall 2026 or Spring 2027. The position is expected to contribute to interdisciplinary AI initiatives across SDSU and will receive an academic appointment in either the Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or Management Information Systems department depending on the candidate's academic training and expertise. Qualifications
Required qualifications by date of application
A record of original research / scholarly accomplishments and demonstrated capacity to
Develop a vigorous and independent program of research and scholarship in multimodal AI systems, generative AI, explainable and interpretable AI, foundation models and large language models, agentic AI and multi-expert reasoning, intelligent physics-based systems, or edge AI.
Terminal PhD degree in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a closely related field, with all degree requirements met.
Preferred qualifications:
Strong technical and theoretical understanding of AI systems, algorithms, and models
Experience in practical application of AI to cross-disciplinary domains
Record of publications, presentations, and/or funding
Potential for securing extramural funding
Preparation for teaching students from diverse backgrounds
