Platte River is seeking a Power Systems Training Coordinator to administer transmission and generation markets training programs to staff and owner community personnel regarding applicable tools, processes and procedures. This position also maintains required training records and certifications according to applicable NERC reliability standards and internal procedures. This individual works closely with the outage coordinator to ensure coverage for outage and training activities throughout the year.
We are looking for an experienced BES operator with current NERC certification as a TO or RC, with good written and verbal communication plus interpersonal skills, who is organized and enjoys facilitating knowledge sharing within group settings.
Essential duties and responsibilities
Models the mission, vision, values, and culture of the organization
Develops, maintains, coordinates, and administers the power system operations and power markets training programs using a systematic approach to training for applicable personnel
Coordinates and conducts switchman training for transmission system maintenance, power plant and designated owner community personnel to ensure that switching performed on the transmission system is done in a safe and reliable manner
Maintains and develops online computer training for authorized list of switchmen
Conducts training for selected personnel on unique tasks required for system restoration in accordance with NERC reliability standards
Provides subject matter expertise and maintains compliance with NERC reliability standards pertaining to power system operations and power markets training
Responsible for tracking and the administration of the power system operations training program in quality training systems – quality training database (QTD) application and other related programs
Manages the tracking of all NERC certified personnel and their continuing education hours (CEH’s) for recertification
Develops and delivers training courses, exams, evaluations and compiles reports for analysis and audits to ensure compliance according to NERC reliability standards and the overall systematic approach to training
Participates in power system operations NERC/WECC audits
Coordinates the maintenance, training delivery, and administration of the PSO- training programs for operators and operations support staff
Ensures applicable personnel receive required training to maintain NERC certification
Maintains compliance with applicable NERC/WECC reliability standards related to training
Holds and maintains the Individual Learning Activity (ILA) Level 3 provider status with NERC, which provides ability to develop and maintain courses for NERC CEH’s
Serves as subject matter expert for the NERC ILA level 3 audit, provides required reporting and documentation according to the needs of NERC’s credential maintenance program administrative manual
Coordinates and leads annual training advisory board meetings for power system operations and power markets to review all training programs in accordance with NERC reliability standards
Attends various trainings and conferences to stay updated with NERC reliability standards, current software programs and tools and the ever-changing operations environment
Develops various cases and scenarios used on the operator training simulator
Maintains understanding and follows the FERC standards of conduct; his role is classified as a transmission function employee actively and personally engaged daily in transmission functions
Other duties
Represent Platte River on applicable regional or national training groups and forums such as RMTAC, NATF and SPP customer west training groups
Serves as backup for the Outage Coordinator
Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge, skills and abilities
Knowledge and experience working with bulk electric system (BES) operations
Thorough knowledge of NERC training requirements
Ability to transfer knowledge in a way that receivers can comprehend
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work with external entities and build partnerships
Ability to remain calm and positive during stressful situations
Strong computer skills
Knowledge of NERC and WECC reliability standards
Completed “train the trainer” program or the ability to attend and complete within first 12 months paid by company
Education and licenses
Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent years of directly related experience
Must have current NERC Certified System Operator certification certificate as either a Transmission Operator or a Reliability Coordinator
Current valid driver’s license and ability to remain insurable under the vehicle liability policy
Required work experience
Minimum of five years of bulk electric system (BES) operations experience
Preferred work experience
Ten years of experience working in bulk electric system (BES) transmission operations
Physical demands
Minimal physical effort typically found in clerical work. Primarily sedentary, may occasionally lift and carry light objects. Walking and/or standing as needed and minimal.
