Want to build and redesign plant cell walls using synthetic biology? Carbohydrate polymers are essential for our health, energy and materials needs, yet remain challenging to study in plants (Voiniciuc, 2022). The Designer Glycans group uses synthetic biology approaches to discover how cell wall polysaccharides are made in yeast and plant species. By combining genetic engineering, carbohydrate biochemistry and microscopy, we are paving the way to remodel the structure and function of plant biopolymers with precision.
