The Department of Experimental Plant Biology at the Faculty of Science, Charles University (Prague, Czech Republic), one of Europe’s oldest and most distinguished universities, invites applications for a postdoctoral position within the frame of one or both of the following Research Groups:
We are seeking a motivated early-career scientist who will advance research on plant development in the context of environmental factors, foster innovation, and engage actively in a collaborative academic environment. The successful candidate is expected to carry out high-quality, internationally competitive research, making effective use of the department’s and faculty’s core facilities.
The ideal candidate will have a solid publication record relative to career stage and a strong conceptual understanding of morphogenesis in the context of environmental factors.
The successful candidate will join an established and supportive research team, with the opportunity to progressively develop their own research ideas and scientific independence.
The position offers:
A supportive and collaborative research environment
Opportunities to develop and shape your own research direction
Access to modern infrastructure and core facilities
Guidance and mentoring in applying for external funding
Opportunities to contribute to student supervision and mentoring
The opportunity for long-term involvement in the research group
While the position encourages increasing independence, the candidate will benefit from close interaction with experienced researchers and a mentoring environment.
The contract is renewable and provides an excellent opportunity to build a competitive academic profile and prepare for future career steps, including an independent research position.
Informal inquiries and consultation with the relevant group leader(s) before application are encouraged.
Applications will be evaluated by a departmental committee, and shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview (in person or online).
The successful candidate should:
Hold (or be close to completing) a PhD in plant biology
Demonstrate enthusiasm, curiosity, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Actively seek out external research funding
Have experience relevant to plant morphogenesis or a related area
Show willingness to develop new skills and research directions
Previous postdoctoral experience is not required, but highly experienced candidates with a clear interest in developing their own research profile are encouraged to apply.
Required documents:
A Curriculum Vitae
A complete list of publications
Attachment 1: a track record of research funding, specifying grants obtained as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator (if aplicable)
Attachment 2: a brief research proposal (maximum 3 pages including references) with a focus compatible with the research of the above-mentioned groups
Attachment 3: two letters of recommendation, or contact details for at least two referees
The Faculty of Science was established as an independent faculty in 1920 as a natural response to the development of modern natural sciences. Thanks to the tradition and breadth of its research, Charles University has become one of the highest-ranked research institutions not only in the Czech Republic but also in Central Europe as a whole.
Nature inspires us to explore, develop, and share knowledge across biology, chemistry, geology, geography, environmental sciences, and their interdisciplinary connections and applications.
This idea forms the foundation of the identity of the Faculty of Science, Charles University—a place where the tradition of the oldest university in Central Europe meets the dynamics of modern science.
